Tenant left a mess before decamping out of the city

Both of my upstairs tenants left the city temporarily. One just left for three months and left a huge mess in their apartment – I learned about this because they asked me to get something from their kitchen right after they left. There were crumbs all over the counter and the living room was piled with toys and paper. I’m concerned about vermin with them being gone for so long. I asked them to get their cleaning lady out via an Uber but they have been hemming and hawing – they have been VERY jarred by the pandemic and I assume are concerned about the safety of asking someone to get into an Uber. I appreciate their concern but am worried about living under an apartment that will be inviting all sorts of pests. Would it be appropriate, if they don’t take steps themselves, for me to get a cleaner myself (whoever would feel comfortable getting into an Uber, I guess) and charge them that cost? I would do it myself but we’re a WHF family with small kids – I can b arely keep my own responsibilities in order, let alone spend several hours cleaning another apartment right now. Am I overreacting?

You really need to distance yourself, I can’t fathom a tenant calling me and asking “to get something from their kitchen” I respect their space and they respect mine. If they keep their apartment a pigsty I can’t say I approve, but its none of my business as long as its left clean when they leave.

A bit overreacting. I would let them know that I will clean it by myself. I would make a lot of pictures and save them on before. Then when I get their permission to do this I will do cleaning. There is always a nighttime when kids sleep 😉 I will do this if situation bothers me.
