Structural Damage Guarantee - Termite Extermination
We have just discovered termites in our home after the swarmers made themselves known this April. My parents have lived in multiple states and said their termite extermination has always come with an extended warranty for the extermination of the bugs BUT ALSO a warranty against further damage to the structure, as long as annual inspections are made. The NYC extermination companies seem to offer, at best, a warranty to come back out and apply more chemicals if termites are found during the annual paid inspection. Any advice what is typical in our area? I had M and M pest control to inspect. They’re $2,000 + taxes, $150 for annual inspection, 8 year warranty against pest but no structural warranty.

Try Unlimited Pest Control. 800 544-7378. It’s been at least 20 years since they did the termite work, so I don’t remember the price. But I’m pretty sure they did not charge for an estimate (maybe things have changed). After about 10 years we stopped paying for the annual inspection, but we do use them for bi-monthly extermination service. They do good work and are reasonably priced.

Sounds like the same service and warranty we have with our exterminator. Seems like our first treatment was $800 or so in 2009 and I can’t remember the cost of the most recent treatment — $1,200? More? The cost will vary, of course, depending on the scope of the treatment. As I recall, the treatment was in the ground outside the rear of our 20-foot-wide house.

shop around. when my landlord needed this done about 20 years ago, she called two companies. basically the same service, one was half the price. when we had our house done, when we bought it in ’06, i think it was $750. my house would be smaller than the average brooklyn brownstone. most of these should include a warranty against future infestation, me thinks.
