STILL looking for duct repair/replacement!!!

There are 7 boilers which vent to a duct; then the duct connects to another duct that goes to the chimney. The duct where the boilers are connected has lots of holes and the duct to the chimney is ok. The boilers have been checked and are ok.

Master Plumber: Thanks for responding to the prior post. We’re hoping plumbers can provide names of someone to repair the duct. Don’t know if the duct is “flue piping”. It doesn’t seem like something I would call piping. It’s sheet metal about 1 ft square. Does that sound like something a chimney company would work on?

We need a licensed and insured contractor.

PLEASE – we’re really desperate and really surprised that no plumbers who work on boilers seem to know contractors who can repair ducts.

I’d phone a metal fabricator who builds ducts – maybe Carts in Park Slope. See if they can make what you need or refer you to someone who would design, build & install it.

i just went on line and googled HVAC Duct. this seems to be the problem the OP might be having. it looks like they have firms that design and make this stuff but then someone else installs it. and maybe HVAC people only want to work on modern systems like in office buildings. we should also keep in mind that there are not many boilers left in the city for these folks to service (steam is purchased from con ed in modern and some older office buildings) so they are used to making modern rectangular ducts for modern equipment.

there is a retired tin smith who lives near me. he retired from one of the big firms. i will see if i can get the name of a smaller co from him.

Dibs: The old term for someone who did this was a “tin knocker”.

i suspect they are two different trades. (the HVAC guy would sub that portion out; i’ve watched HVAC installations in buildings and it is a different crew).

now that i think of it, Long Island Tinsmith’s Supply is right here in like Glendale/Middle Village and i bet if the OP called them they can get a name.

what the op might have to google is “Tin Smith” though i am not sure they still go by that term.

Any HVAC guy that does furnaces and boilers should be able to properly deal with the flue venting of said equipment. It goes hand in hand with their installation. “Ducts” carry air in a HVAC system. The “flue” carries the exhaust gases

OP, that is flue piping. i just googled it and got some good looking returns. including firms that appear to do just that.

you are having trouble getting replies here because this sort of thing is specialized. for some guy to change a dryer vent is one thing, but to mess with a flue is something else.
