Spacing requirement next to stove?

We are doing a kitchen renovation in a tight space. Our architects said that 1′ is required minimum according to code on either side of the stove. On one side there is a fridge and on the other a sink. The kitchen place we are getting our cabinets through said they think this should only apply when the stove interfaces with other appliances, in our case the side with the fridge. There other side with the sink, could be slightly less. Asking because this would allow us to get a bigger sink and a few inches counts! TIA.

Sorry if it wasn’t clear, I was wondering if there was a minimum requirement according to the code and if so, was it 12 inches?

You should have space between a range and another appliance.
