short term solution for water getting into basement?

guessing i am going to need a mason since my water problems have advanced from some slight seepage to getting some pooling water after rain storms. in the interim are their any patches i can do myself to try and minimize this for a few months while i try and figure out permanent solution? does seem like water is coming into my basement from my neighbors shared wall, which does seem a bit strange.

In the meantime put a sump pump in a large tub underneath and route the hose in your sewer or up to the back or font

ladder is the single access point after previous owner concrete blocked off the backyard access. theres just nothing wrong the ladder and im not sure what they even want done to fix it.

well, con ed is refusing to come out. whenever they did the emergency repair i guess the technician put a hazardous access hold on my property without notifying me. seems like unilaterally they can make this assessment with no consequences so i am left carrying buckets of water flowing from a con ed conduit into my basement up that ‘unsafe’ ladder while no one on the con ed size knows anything about what the actual issue with access is and yet won’t seal the leak stemming from the manhole because of it. kafka-esque times while the entire blocks drainage ends up in my basement.

i have worked with 311 and also contacted my state reps office, but i am truly at a loss

definitely happy i dont need to do extensive repairs, but worried about being on con eds timeline, especially with parking restrictions relaxed and the manhole always with a car parked on top of it. lots of rain on the horizon

If it comes from the shared wall then your neighbors basement floods. They are very likely aware of the problem. Talk to them and hope for the best, without their cooperation there’s not much you can do

Hm — maybe ask your neighbor if they’ve seen anything on their side? Otherwise, standard advice is to make sure your outside surfaces slant away from the house. If that fails, an option is to parge the cellar walls every 10 years or so. Repointing the exterior of the cellar walls is a more permanent but risky, costly and disruptive option. We had water pouring in from one particular spot in a corner whenever it rained, which turned out to be caused by missing mortar (which we couldn’t see until we removed the Perma-Stone covering it).

Years ago I marked t he e so u r to s in my cellar where water was coming in during a heavy rainstorm. I wen back later and filled in those spots with hydraulic cement. That worked pretty well.
