Seeking demolition guy/gal

I’m looking for someone to demolish and remove walls around my cellar furnace, at staircase and around gas meter. And hopeful ceiling too. Someone you have personal experience with. (I checked with DOB and don’t need the walls).

Why not call your asbestos abatement company and ask them if this is safe to demo, or why it wasnt removed. If it does contain asbestos, you could have them do the job. It will cost a few bucks more, but you wont get asbestos everywhere.

It seems my cellar walls are Pyrobar. I see online it doesn’t contain asbestos, but the mortar might!

i like that urbandad mentions dump fees. one reason i am so down on people hiring less than professional contractors is that a lot of construction debris gets dumped under bridges and along side highways in this city and something tells me that it is not the above board contractors doing this-

If an asbestos abatement was done, I think probably they would have gotten anything in this area, unless there’s a place you can’t see or access with pipes or something that might have asbestos. If so I would discuss this with the demo contractor to make sure they know to check carefully before hacking away. I know a demo contractor who would probably do this for around 2200, but that may be a little too much for your job. If 2 guys could do it in one day, that’s maybe 600 in labor, figure 1000 overhead and profit and dump fees. Other details will affect the cost, like what kind of access is available to the cellar, and how difficult the job is. I’m just roughly estimating, if a solo guy did it in a day it could be cheaper, if a bigger contractor did it, or if you need fancy insurance, it would probably be more.

I used Alexander Demo and Hauling and liked them, small family business. I used them not for demo walls but to remove old appliances etc. –but they do demolition as well.

@resident2: we should assume that the OP has come on here looking for the names of professionals only. given that, shouldn’t the OP wait for the contractor to advise how to proceed? it is one way to weed out a bad actor; if someone comes in all ready to do the work without mentioning the “a” word, the op knows they have to pass as there is no telling what else they will do wrong; there could be asbestos and it could end up being dumped on the side of a highway some place.
