Roof deck recommendations?
A 9’x25′ deck area = 225 sf. Your 5K will not cover it unless you intend to get a NYC DCA licence and insurance policy to then operate a business and build it yourself. Composite decking is not recommended these days for reasons having to do with early on failure to withstand the change of temps in the Northeast and it’s flammable content. See Jim Hill’s accurate code %’s…

We had a 25 x 9 deck on the fifth floor of our coop building that we just had to pull up to fix the roof beneath. Now the roof repair is complete and we’re looking to rebuild: simple wood or composite deck. The railing is still sturdy and in place. Does anyone out there have recommendations? I’m aware of the leading deck-builders in the neighborhood. I’m not looking for something fancy, just a simple, sturdy job, ideally in the $5K range, which I realize is below what many people charge.

Just had our roof redone with Almir’s Roofing and are satisfied. I recommend getting multiple estimates. Be careful with Royal Renovators / Goldenberg Roofing / NY Roofing … it’s one company working under multiple names… very pushy and reviews all seem fake. Good luck.

Keep in mind that the code limits combustible roof decking to 20% of the roof area. With only 9′, you may well be under that limit. Composite decking (Trex, etc.) is combustible, as is Ipe.
