Replacing gutter

Our copper gutter rotted because water sat in it.

Hi everyone, we hired a roofing company to fix our gutter last year but they said it didn’t need to be replaced and just tried to fix it. Unfortunately it is still having problems with pooling water. I recommend leaving it as is, since it’s pretty well integrated/flashed with the roof edge. The pooling isn’t that much of a problem, as long as it’s draining and not overflowing past the gutter when it rains.

I think it’s the masonry underneath that’s letting water in. We are having issues with the water running behind the exterior wall and in through the window flashings.

We had a problem like that which was solved with a newer type of gutter that has a flange sitting on the masonry parapet, with the gutter sitting outside of the rear wall.

Interesting, what about trying to partly fill it with some material to try to create a pitch to drain the water out? Letting the water sit there could result in some problems. It will reduce the life of the gutter itself, breed mosquitoes , and possible do other damage.
