Referral for architectural consult

We are in the process of finishing the middle of a brownstone basement in Carroll Gardens. There are outer rooms already existing, and the middle is gutted and has a pre-existing slab. It’s a pretty simple job—just throw up some drywall and lights and cover the floor.

We are looking for an architect who is very familiar with NYC codes (esp. 3 family fire codes) to visit the site and give us advice about a particular wall at the bottom of the stairs. The sellers had to correct violations at closing and we think their architect was overzealous and in CYA mode (e.g., he put in seven, count them, SEVEN new fire doors in our basement.) We don’t think the wall is necessary, but we want someoe who knows to look at it before we take it down (it is not structural).

It seems to be difficult to get an architect in for an hour, even if we’re willing to pay a hefty consulting fee, but I am hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. Any recommendations appreciated!
