Redoing rear extension

We have a small rear extension (about 10 x 10) that needs an overhaul and insulating. Wondering if anyone who has done a similar project has advice and could recommend someone for the job. Thanks in advance!

If there are no “problems” other than lack of insulation this should be very straightforward. Sounds like Cate maybe had a lot of underlying issues with their property. Start with an architect then bring on a GC once you have clearly defined scope and budget.

Our extension was not airtight. We insulated. That was a big mistake. It did nothing to solve the cold problem and termites came up between the wood walls and the insulation. We tore out the insulation, treated for termites, then worked with an architect and general contractor on a bigger project to redo the siding on the house and extension. First we had to fix whatever was wrong with the extension. Water was coming up over the slab foundation, the foundation was no longer level, the exterior door couldn’t open and close correctly, the window wasn’t working, a spot on the roof was sagging, and the unfinished, unwinterized wood walls were full of cracks. We needed a new foundation properly connected to the walls to prevent water coming in. So we did that. The experts also suggested also tearing down the extension and building a new one. We chose not to, but they were correct. So they caulked and patched and sistered, and also they had to put on a new roof when they redid the siding on the house (to connect them properly). Long story short, first figure out what is wrong. Caulk, plug, patch and weatherstrip. Try to get it so no air is coming in, even if it’s chilly because you don’t have heat out there. If none of that helps, talk to some architects, masons and general contractors.
