Recommendations to Buy Wood Flooring and Vinyl Windows in Brooklyn or Nearby

Hi,

I’m looking for recommendation as to whereto buy wood flooring, Select grade unfinished white oak- 4-6 inch planks. Open to other flooring, finished real wood and herringbone engineered and unfinished.

Also need recommendations as to where to buy reasonably priced vinyl windows. Need both black and white vinyl. Must have good warranty. Thanks.

the flooring shop right out front of lowe’s gate. i think it is NY flooring. the owner is a great help. he is two doors from lumber liquidators but he is so helpful that i would only go to him.

as for windows. i am not sure in brooklyn and i have not installed a window since the late 1990’s but i last bought windows from one of the many retailers in Flushing. i was happy with them and there are a lot of reasonably priced products out there but take this from a contractor; a lot of homeowners don’t seem to realize that “reasonably priced” and quality are generally what is termed an “inverse relationship” so there is a point at which too reasonable might mean “junk”. read reviews of different brands or talk to someone you know (ask everyone you know who has vinyl windows what they think of theirs).

i listened to a friend when we did the windows in my house and since i did not own a break to make the metal bents for the caps, i needed his help. he recommended something called “super seal” and while we are happy with them, they are so thin that when we realiz ed we might want triple pane in the front of the house, we also realized that we cannot squeeze triple pane into the frames. so as you shop, consider your options.
