Has anyone had experience with Home Air Inc.? I see that ParkSlopeJason recommends the company. I’ve had so much bad luck lately with workers, I just want to be sure. I don’t see much online activity or even a webpage for the company. Joe seems very reasonably priced but of course what they do is a bit of a mystery.

It is difficult to vet strict HVAC companies because technically there is no licensing process for them currently in NYC like with Electrical or Plumbing where you can check their records. Could always check the BBB as well.

You don’t want to cut corners on this, especially if you are using the system for heat. I don’t know this company and never heard the name.

Sometimes you can get a good feel for a company if they are a vetted installer of certain systems, for example, the best Mitsubishi mini split installers that I’ve encountered are Diamond certified by Mitsubishi itself. Of course your mileage may vary, but so far it’s been a good point of reference for us. And I agree with no-permitz: you do NOT want to cut corners on something like this. In our previous place, we did, and we lived to regret it for years after.

YES! I’ve worked with them twice (and evangelized for them on here before) and was very happy. Sam Chiu, the owner and installer, is super nice, responsive, conscientious, and communicates well. Their quotes were on par with others. I know they don’t have much of an online footprint – it’s a small operation.

Sorry for the delayed reply…

I have a different number for Sam – this is actually Joe, his office manager: (347) 966-3561.

We had out Mitsu system installed about a year and a half ago and are very happy. We do use it for heat sometimes (our steam system is a mess and hisses and bangs like crazy sometimes – which is a whole separate issue – so we run the splits at night occasionally when we can’t take the noise), and it’s very effective, and totally silent (on the bedroom level it’s a horizontal ducted unit in the ceiling above the bathroom and is literally silent). Note – we do NOT have the hyper heat model, so I can’t opine on the effectiveness during extreme cold conditions of one vs the other. On the living/dining/kitchen level, we have two wall units, and here too we run the heat on occasion to more quickly take the edge off – in the morning when it’s chilly or when we first get home, for instance, since it heats faster than the steam system.
