Project Manager for Renovation
If your renovation project is significant enough that you are considering a “project manager,” then you should really be working with an architect. This is literally what we do. If you already have one onboard, then they should be managing the payment requests, evaluating the quality of the work, and tracking the budget and schedule throughout the construction phase.

Has anyone ever used a project manager instead of a general contractor for a home renovation? Interested to hear how it went. Thanks

The best project manager is you. General Contractors usually have several jobs open at the same time. I’m currently working on a new building, and the general contractor hasn’t visited the site in over 3 weeks. There’s also a project manager, which also has several sites, and i haven’t seen him in over a month. Haven’t seen the architect since the job started. Seems like it’s just the status quo, to leave the guys getting paid the least to get it done.

Wrong. If you have no experience, your biggest mistakes is acting as the project manager

I hired one. My GC didn’t cooperate so it didn’t go well. But the project manager confirmed a lot of my suspicions. So I fired the GC when I had the opportunity. And agree with no-permitz.

The Brownstone Boys (whom I have never used) seem to offer this kind of service and they look to have many active projects in flight. May be worth reaching out? I have also used Sweeten who offer a PM service should you require it. Not sure if that is available standalone though.
