PRIVACY FOR GARDEN APARTMENT
What is the best option for window coverings for a garden apartment that will provide the maximum light for the home owner and prevent people on the outside from seeing in? Thank you.

Old school brownstone shutters work well.

Another option for cellular shades, in addition to top-down, bottom-up, if you are the sort that wants some covering on the window even when you are wanting light to come in the daytime, is two shades on one – you can have a lighter, screening material on the shade that lets in light, with a thicker cellular shade that is more private on the bottom below it – you just pull the cord further to get to the upper or lower shade you want, and you can set it where the top part of the window has the lighter shade over it to let in light, with the thicker one on the bottom for some privacy in the daytime.

Often its best to pay professional to do what they are trained to do rather then tackling something as a novice…also it would be warrantied by them

I’ve used in many projects succesfully…it has to be applied by the vendor not a home owner

Vellum shades,,,,or solar film on the glass is very cheap. you can use one that is a mirrored surface on the street side

Years ago I bought that translucent stuff you spray on windows for Christmas decorations, as mentioned by bkallday. Now I just use wax paper, taped to the window.

I second top down/bottom up cellular shades. They provide privacy and let in light.

top down, bottom up window shades in a light color. I have the cellular kind – got them at Bed Bath and Beyond. I prefer the shades to a film covering because I like the option of looking out of my window.

Home Depot sells multiple versions of a window film that is super easy to apply. You can get it frosted, or with different designs. I would buy the kit or better yet go on YouTube and learn how to make the fluid that you need to spray on the window. All you need is the film, a very sharp razor and rubber squeegee and the solution. It is sold by Gila https://www.homedepot.com/p/Gila-Complete-Window-Film-Application-Kit-RTK500SM/100354790.
