Can anyone advise me on a pressurized toilet? On my travels, I’ve seen toilets equipped with an “eco flush” in the tank. It seems efficient and powerful. Is this something I could fit into my toilets? Or do I have to purchase new toilets with it already installed?

when i first moved to nyc, a building i worked in had toilets with these units in them. they looked like regular toilets but seemed to have a black pressure tank inside the water tank. i was new to the city at the time and thought they were some kind of widely used eco friendly toilet but now that you mention these, i don’t think i have come across them since. where have you seen them? in the US, other states, or oversees?
i was not very impressed with them. i think the idea was the put the water out under pressure so as to be able to do the job with less. but they seemed to perform less than stellar. i don’t recall if they were made by one of the big outfits or not. its been a while.

You need a whole new toilet that is designed for a pressure flush.

I rented a place with a pressure-assisted toilet in the powder room. A friend used it one day (I hardly ever used it), and when I came home after seeing her out, I heard the tank running. As I couldn’t make heads or tails of the black tank-inside-the-tank, I turned off the water line.
As the condo maintenance staff couldn’t make sense of it either (nor, of a regular ball and flapper toilet either, I soon found out – I mean, really, I’ve been fixing them since I was a kid – most of the toilets in that building were the old industrial-looking flushometer ones without tanks, so they didn’t encounter them that often in the building, but in at least 50 years these two maintenance guys had never figured out how a ball-and-flapper toilet worked outside of work? – boggles the mind. I realized this when there a was leak in a unit some floors below, and they wanted to replace the flapper in my toto toilet, in case that was the cause – I told them that’s not how it works, as my toilet had no visible leaks.
My landlord wouldn’t bother to have plumber fix the pressure-assist ed toilet over many years, though always promising to send a plumber (the toilet was on the list with all the many things that had never worked long since before I moved in that were always going to get fixed … hah!) But since the powder room was tiny, a later addition in what had originally been a closet, which had later been renovated mirrors reflecting into each other to make it even more claustrophobic and even fun-house like, I never used it. (Chalk it up to one of the many things tenants put up with.) Luckily the full bath had a toto toilet that worked fine.
I probably should have looked for a youtube DIY video of how to fix the pressure assisted one (as I did successfully when the toto toilet had issues I needed to take it apart and clean some parts – I knew not to wait for my landlord to send a plumber), but I was so used to just forgetting that I even HAD a half-bath that I never tried to fix the pressure-assisted one.
So, there’s that – they may (or may not) be easy to adjust or fix when needed – though perhaps they are easy when you know what to do, just not as easy as ball and flapper toilets. Most people just look at them and go “huh.”

@stevecym. I’ve seen them recently in a hotel and several restaurants in Washington DC and several restaurants in Cape Cod and Brooklyn NY. They seemed to be pretty efficient, hence my considering installing them in my home.

@mac, thanks for filling me in. after you brought these up, i thought about them and realized i had not seen them since the 1990’s, in that one building. since they are in commercial buildings – i wonder if they are something designed to replace flushometers (those things the schools have) since many high traffic places cannot use toilet tanks as they will not fill fast enough for the next user and hence will not work right and create a mess.
so i am guessing they are a commercial product which means you will want to check a commercial supply house. Try Creed Plumbing Supply. We used them pre web site days and they had a pretty good catalog. i am going to see if they now have a good website.

@stevecym. Thanks so much. I was thinking if they work well in hight traffic areas, like restaurant, hotel, that they should be great in a residence. I will check the catalog. thanks again.

@mac, they may cost more. that is often the downside to using genuine commercial products at home. i am a contractor and i do not purchase things for my own house that my customers have me install in theirs. very rare.

We had something that fits that description, in France, a “sani-broyeur”. We had a
lot of trouble with it leaking into the neighbor’s apt below and after several repairs took it out.
