Preserving bluestone when Con Ed does work
Take tomorrow off, watch, and don’t hesitate to be a PITA if necessary.

Con Ed is doing some work on our block and they have painted our sidewalk in a way that leads us to believe that they are going to do some demolition there (permit is for our neighbor’s house but when I called they said that sometimes the pipes go in such a way that they may have to dig up adjacent sidewalks).
Based on the quality/care of the work we can see the contractor do down the street we don’t feel confident that they are going to do a good job preserving the bluestone we have. This is a landmarked district.
Does anyone have recommendations for how best to ensure that this is done right? Unfortunately this is all happening tomorrow so we don’t have much time. I’ve heard that we should pay to get the bluestone picked up ourselves which would be annoying but I guess we’d be willing to do it. Any other recommendations?
