Possible to reline interior drain pipe?
Hi folks – our roof/cornice originally drained into a gutter that fed a pipe inside the wall of our house. Assume pipe is then connected to main waste line in cellar. At some point, previous owners added new gutter and typical metal external drain pipe.
We’re having cornice repaired now and roofer discovered the old hole for the original clay pipe. Scoping camera found pipe is broken. We can always just keep the external one, but it’s pretty ugly and not original to the house so I’d love to be able to reinstate the old system.
Roofer says he can repair internal pipe, but this would require opening major parts of the interior walls and we’re JUST now finishing a 5 year reno of the inside (yes, I know we should have done the roof first but there are lots of reasons we didn’t so…this is where we’re at now) so I really don’t want to have to go through all of that right now.
My question is if anyone has experience just putting a new liner inside an old drain pipe – sort of like what’s often done for chimneys, for example? Roofer says is theoretically possible, but he ha sn’t himself done it or heard of it being done…anyone out there that has experience on this sort of thing? Any other options? Thanks!

Shoot, that’s what I was afraid of (drain becoming too small)…Guess we’ll have to stick with the ugly exterior one. Thanks, though!

you would be downsizing the the drain to a substandard dimension

Assuming it’s a straight run and you can bypass the break, I don’t see why it can’t be done.

the short answer is no, not possible. It is a drain line and the only way to replace it is to bust open the walls
