Plumber charge time-and-a-half without notice.

The only issue here is that they had to notify you in advance and give you a choice.

Had plumbing emergency on Friday evening, however, repairs started on Saturday (8 hrs). Got the bill for $2,500 and realized I was charged time-and-a half and travel time. Is this standard practice?
