Painting rear facade
Looking to paint our rear façade (460 sq ft) after we repoint. Has anyone done this and on average, what does it cost?

You shouldn’t paint a brick wall. It will deteriorate the brick and mortar, plus you’ll have to repaint it every 10 years give or take. If it’s bare brick and properly pointed, it should last a lifetime. If it’s been painted already and its ugly, Thorocoat it. That will last close to a lifetime too.

Have the same person that is doing the repointing do the painting that way there is no ambiguity later if there is a problem. More than likely there is going to be some sort of scaffolding or hanging rig in place when they do the pointing so you would have major savings over hiring another contractor to do the painting and having to install their own rig. The key to a good exterior paint job is to properly remove any loose paint or other coatings and wash the building down with clean water after pointing. Make sure the pointing is dry for at least 10 days (more if it is below 45 degrees) a good coat of quality primer “BM Fresh Start Exterior” and you are off and running. With rig or scaffold in place figure about $ 6 sq.ft and up to $ 10-12 if the painter has to put up scaffolding or rig. Right now is not a good time of year to do exterior facade painting.
