Old Stove Repair

Finally, Call Tuck Wadleigh Stove Repair in Hingham MA (617) 749-2459. They purchase, repair and refurbish vintage Franklin, wood, gas and electric stoves. This person was recommended to me by a designer friend who has done vintage interiors. I trust his judgement.

Hm. I can’t find a method in the new interface for editing an existing post.

My husband read my reply above about Stove Lady, and corrected me. She didn’t fix the flash tube – my husband repaired/replaced it. She also did not know how to turn my stove ON (a more modern Chambers model, it had an electrical timer which had been set to “off”. The oven wouldn’t ignite until the timer was “on”). She is a real expert! She tried to convince him the stove wouldn’t work and then really pressed us to buy an expensive restored stove she had in stock.

For what it’s worth, we’ve used the stove now for a couple of years and we adore it. Ugly, no chrome, but it cooks like a dream.

Yes- when we encountered her she had just moved her business for some unspecified reason and had a dire need of cash. We schlepped our stove to her (ENORMOUS pia) because she couldn’t pick up or deliver, she did a bare minimum cleaning, replaced a single flash tube (used for igniting the pilot) and then began to flirt in email with my husband trying to coax him to spend 8k for chroming and full “restoration”. When we explained we didn’t want that, we had to rent a truck and go pick the thing up again!! There is a well regarded stove repair for vintage stoves in New England – I will try to dig up that info. Stove Lady is quite the operator: p

Keep away from The Stove Lady at ALL costs. She’s overpriced and full of nonsense. She essentially held our stove hostage and charged us $1500 for doing next to nothing, all the while urging us towards an inappropriate “full restoration” featuring chrome cooking surfaces on a stove which was never chromed. (Not to mention who wants to cook on chrome?) Unless something has changed drastically, she’s a fraud.
