hey david, welcome here. i am a contractor and do door work myself.

i have watched a few things unfold on here and in brooklyn recently where people have been taken advantage of by less than scrupulous contractors and in spite of the good advice the community provide, it continues to happen. some times the people bring this on themselves by over shopping a job; other times they pay top price for something as simple as caulking and they get humped (and this makes all of us look bad).

the folks on here really need people who show commitment to what the do by being licensed and carrying insurance and who have either learned with other professionals or have been school trained and are willing to do the research to learn about new products they might be using and be able to explain the limitations to what they are doing to their customers. too many customers are left having to guess at what to do or try to find answers the contractors should be providing.

A good way to find work here is to answer questions for commentators. also, have a website and do like i us ed to do when i needed work: close your reply with your name and your web address. i am so busy i do not even tell people the name of my company any more when i comment here. also, the directory listings on here are a great way to promote your website and i think doing so moves you up in the rankings with google.
