New construction next door - help on elevator noise

My fiance and I are in an awesome brownstone in clinton hill – where a lot of development is going on. The building going up next to us will have an elevator running right along the wall adjacent to our kitchen and our bedroom. I want to make sure that the contractor makes that elevator as silent as possible. Does anyone know the requirements for this and anyone who is capable of testing to make sure they are in spec, and who can help make them be in spec by the city (if there is a spec)! This would be a big help!
