Need more hot water from my steam boiler

I have a six family with and old but functional gas-fired steam boiler. Hot water is provided to each apartment via a coil on the boiler. Some of my tenants have complained that they occasionally can not get a hot shower. I am considering installing a indirect water heater which will use steam from the boiler to heat water and store the water in an insulated tank. Does anyone have experience with retrofitting an old boiler with an indirect water heater? Any contractor recommendations?

You shouldn’t be wasting money on an indirect water heater since you’ve already got a hot water coil in your boiler. All you need is a storage tank. A pump on the coil will shuttle the water into the tank after it’s heated via the boiler. Your tenants will then draw from that tank. Storage tanks, or any “electric” water heater (can be used as storage only), are much cheaper than indirect water heaters.
