You are right in the end. I am trying to get the areas they are inspecting in to better inform my clients actually. In the end the outcome is the same but the stress is definitely less, like you said.
Horrible shot to my industry that no MP could come to your aid though!

I wanted to share this here. We have officially began seeing the notices and inspections in the neighborhood where one of our facilities is located (South Brooklyn) and it is causing serious confusion, especially to families having a stranger show up to come into their homes unannounced; heads up to everyone.
Has anyone else gotten the notices in other neighborhoods? Have not seen any yet in our other neighborhoods but told it will begin soon.

Yes, think I posted this last year. I seen them show up in 2 different areas in Southern Brooklyn. Its done by Precision Pipeline Solutions contractors. If you are cautious, don’t let the guy in ringing the doorbell and leaving a note. Call the number and schedule an apt instead. They should have proper ID. They will check the gas sleeve line coming in and the meters for leaks. Once completed (takes 5 mins), they will put a sticker with a year on your meters.

Are you down in Park Slope? We had an influx down there yesterday and today.
The Pipeline guys only inspect for leaks, they won’t look for violations. That being said, if they find a leak, then it is much different.

NYS now has a law that every home needs to be inspected (the gas meter to the street for gas leaks)
. Here’s my advice: prior to scheduling have a plumber test for any possible leaks. If the gas company discovers the leaks, your gas will be turned off and then a master plumber will be needed to correct this. The gas co then needs to come back and recheck – this can take a number of days & you can be without gas & hot water.

If you bring in a Master Plumber, you going to do the same thing essentially. Not only are Master Plumbers legally obligated to report any Gas Leaks just like Pipeline would, but soon they will be carrying monitors that detect gas and using a locator device automatically send a message of the Gas Leak; suppose to start that in 2020.
You end up in the same situation.

I would imagine it’s easier to take care of prior to Pipeline coming in. We are relieved that we are now gas leak free. Trying to find a MP to come in at the 11th hour was not an easy task. If a reg plumber who has a monitor to check and the ability to fix, then I guess that can be a solution. Bottom line I imagine most older homes have these issues.
