Hi! Hoping to tap into the brain power in this forum. Is anyone familiar with this DOB “plaque” that’s in our house? It’s covered in (many) layers of paint, but it says:
DEPARTMENT OF BUILDINGS
CITY OF NEW YORK
214517
The last line is our house address (which I’ve covered for privacy)
For context: This is an 1890s house in a landmark district in The Bronx.

It looks like the Multiple Dwelling Registration # (MDR#) it needs to be on the wall in the vicinity of the front door. Most are by the mail boxes along with the inspection frame, the smoke detector form, the Boiler access # … & a million other notices needed in the vestibule of multiple dwellings (3 families & more)

You should recognize the number if you’ve been registering annually with HPD and DHCR as required..

Hi mozeeatupu. That doesn’t apply. We bought the house in June and are going through the Alteration CO process with the DOB as we speak. But thanks for chiming in, I’ve learned a ton through this forum!

You’re still required to register the property annually as the new owners.

You are required to register it until you get a new 1 or 2 family CofO, and then you need to make shore you have de-registered it with DHCR & HPD. The Certificate of Non Harassment does not automatically update DHCR Or HPD registration requirements.
I have sat in L&T court watching a landlord get royally screwed by a tenant claiming to be rent stabilized because the building was not de-registered with DHCR & HPD still had it registered as a rooming house! The Landlords lawyer was closing Attorney! Not a L&T attorney. Took 3 years of appeals to sort it out and of course a huge legal bill & no rent.
