We installed historical replica ironwork on our stoop as part of a general restoration of our brownstone facade and front yard. In order to avoid encroaching on the neighbor’s front yard with the post on the bottom step (which originally extended into their yard based on the historical photo), we brought the posts and handrails inward along the stoop. This unfortunately has made for an awkward layout of the ironwork (the posts are at the edges of the bottom step rather than being off to the side, and the rails are inset ~6” more than usual). As with everything that isn’t perfect it’s the kind of thing probably only I notice but it does really bug me. I’m thinking of one day trying to have the posts and rails detached and moved over, which I assume is an insanely difficult/expensive/risky to the integrity of the ironwork kind of job, but interested if anybody has ever done anything like this.
