Metal deck footing depth to frostline or overkill??

Hi All, I am building a metal deck that connects the parlor floor to the garden level – pretty standard 10’x20′ width metal deck. The sub is now saying that he thought 18″ was deep enough even though I thought you need to go to the frost depth which is 42-48″ in NYC. Now he is saying that the job is bigger than he thought… I feel like he is trying to pull a fast one on me. I thought 42-48″ was standard and to code and he knew I was filing the job. Thoughts? TIA

Thanks! I read both 42″ or 48″, depending on what code I read. Yes I filed it, our drawings showed 48″ deep footings. We have a bay that projects out from the facade so it’s 8′ from that.

Footing should be 42″. Did you file this? Drawings should show footing and reinforcing details. Isn’t the max extension for a ‘porch’ is 8′?
