Master bedroom windows - help / thoughts please!!
So we are renovating 3 story brownstone in Center Slope. The picture you see here is the master bedroom overlooking the garden. Aren’t these windows too NARROW? Decorator says once walls painted white with sconces between them, it won’t look so narrow. WIfe says bedrooms are for sleeping and we don’t want all that glass. I don’t agree with either of them and think we should combine at least 2 of these windows. Thoughts and reactions welcome!

Would you consider enlarging the middle window? This would bring almost as much light as combining two of them, Yet would still preserve the design and in my opinion would look better.

Thank you this is facing in the rear so we can combine two of them. It would be lopsided, though, although don’t think that concerns me.

White window frames combined with white painted window trim (i.e. moldings) will help make the windows look larger. Black windows often look like black holes in the walls, especially in bedrooms. Just my 2 cents. But if you can afford it, I would definitely opt to combine two of the windows — even if they have a defined casing separating them. This is a very standard brownstone design and you’ll find examples all over the Slope.

Aesthetic considerations aside IF your house is in an Historic District AND the rear facade is visible from a street such a change wouldn’t be allowed

Narrow yes, but your decorator is right. Molding, window coverings, lighting will make it look different. IMO combining two of the windows will throw off the balance and look odd, not to mention it would be a huge expense to make a change. Is this an addition of some kind? I like it.
