Marble or Quartz

We used a caesarstone countertop that looks more or less like carrera. We have an original carrera mantle in the dining area and the countertop works pretty well with it. Not quite as durable as granite — it can chip.

There are some who embrace the stains on a marble countertop, with the view that eventually it adds up to a rustic patina.

I’m trying to decide whether to go for the carrera marble countertop or the marble looking quartz that everyone is recommending.

I had marble but will never use it as a countertop again. As nice as it looks marble will stain. Doesn’t matter how clean or careful you are the stuff stains easily. Now I use a quartz product with a marble look and very happy with it. You can put anything on it and cleans up easily. Tougher stains come out easily with some Bar Keepers friend.

There’s a large continuum of carrera quality, some which won’t stain but I’ve never researched which ones. But generally it is porous and water on it will darken it if only temporarily but some other things will stain. But yeah, it looks great. There are a few other newer alternatives to Quartzite that are very close looking to actual carrera marble. Do some more research.

Quartz. Carrera is most likely to end in disaster for reasons stated. If you said granite vs quartz that is a more reasonable debate, but carrera i would recommend only for show (people who do absoluteley no cooking)

Quartzite! Looks very similar to marble, is a natural stone and is as durable as granite without looking like granite. We are lucky here in Brooklyn to have stone yards who carry it. We have had ours for a year and we are heavy cooks and entertainers and it looks exactly like the day it was installed.
