There is a good chance that the contractor has no idea how those houses are built. For example, in our case, a contractor removed a joist and the bricks behind it in the cellar and ended up with a hole clear to our cellar. When we called him on it, he said the had thought that we had separate walls and he had just broken through to the space between them. On the other side there have been numerous times when electrical contractors have chipped out walls to install new outlets and have broken through our upstairs walls. So absolutely talk to you neighbors and their contractor. It could save you and them a lot of grief.
