Lighting solution

Stumped trying to figure out what kind of light fixture to replace ours-plaster medallion which I don’t want to cover, 8 foot ceilings, so it can’t hang low–middle of the room. Any thoughts/suggestions? [IMG_0944](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s3/:brownstoner:moKE:img_0944.jpg.jpg)

You need a light that hangs down. This way, you can see the details without making it looked forced.

Maybe you could find a very small polyurathane repro medallion with a smaller opening to add to the center of your existing medallion.

Might want to search for “semi-flushmount” lights. They will have a canopy to cover the 5” wiring hole, but many are still flush enough to not hang down more than you’d want.

Just check the specs for canopy diameter – many canopies I’ve seen are around 4”. Tho you may be able to buy a larger canopy separately and swap it out.

Not sure how your taste skews but West Elm has been bombarding me with sale offers, they have lots of semi-flushmounts and at least a few with 6” canopies that don’t seem like they’d drop down too much:

Not crazy at all – it’s a tough spot to be in, especially with a 5” hole for the canopy to cover! And I took a second look at the photo and are there two canopies stacked on top of each other or was that my imagination?

I’m currently poring over light fixtures for us on the usual suspect vintage sites, if I see anything semi flush with a canopy will post link for you.

Other than that I can’t think of one specific source for what you need, it’s just going to be lots of digging. Old homeownership is grand, ain’t it? 😉

the hole is about 5″, and the medallion is 22″. But most fixtures I see that are appropriate for low ceilinged rooms (the drop being less than 10″) cover too much of the medallion with the canopy. Seems crazy, I know, but I can’t find one.

There are so many options out there – how big is the hole for the wiring? If you can get a fixture with a smaller or no canopy, that would probably show off the medallion nicely.
