Liability insuracne docs from contractor
In reference to outside work if are particularly filing a deck or a porch and securing a work permit, you can ask your contractor for a general liability certificate of insurance plus a NY State worker’s compensation certificate of insurance (standard Accord doc’s ) upon signing into a contract. BUT if you are choosing not to file your job then the contractor is only needs to show you proof of insurance coverages.

What docs should I ask from the contractor? This is for outside work, windows, waterprofing, cement/brick wall, deck. Work under 40k.
Thank you.

Ask for a certificate of insurance. It shows all coverage that they have including expiration dates, amounts of coverage, etc.
Here’s a sample: http://cdn2.hubspot.net/hub/1212/file-13033324-jpg/images/sample_certificate_of_insurance.jpg
If you own your own home just have your name and address as the certificate holder.
