Know something about doors? Pls give some quick advice

Doorstiles.com is the kind of construction you are looking for.

I doubt you will find it but early doors, pre brownstone era, where often made of solid wood. They also began doing this again as a money saving measure in the 1920s or 30s. If you find anything made of solid pieces of wood, do not be fooled by it. It can bend with humid or dry conditions. The door to my kitchen is made this way and is bent. Probably years of moisture on one side of the door.

Doors can also be made by gluing up two pieces of wood to make the stiles. Not seen too often.

What you are looking for is stave construction.

Buying new doors for our house and really struggling with what to get. We just want medium heavy doors that are solid, primed and ready to be painted a white. Are these two basically the same?

The frame port door does not specify what kind of construction. They simply say wood. The other door says it is stave construction. Most of brownstone Brooklyn’s door, including entry, are stave construction. Read about this construction on line (there is a stave maker based in Georgia on the web) and see how this is done. Even though I am not a fan of MDF, I suppose if it is used to skin a stave door, it is not the worst thing. The skin is only a decorative element.

I would still call both of the manufacturers to confirm what they are saying and be sure the frame port is not stave. I do not trust any mass market door manufacturers any more as many are selling rubbish labeled as wood. For instance, twenty years ago I hung a jeld wen door. It was nicely made, staves with a wood skin on it. Made the old way. About a year ago I called jeld wen and asked if they made doors that way anymore and they said no.

Look at tru stile. They have 3 grades of doors, I think. And they have the style you are looking at above. Their highest grade is still made with stave construction or at least it was a year or so ago.

Be careful. A lot of people are playing with words to make garbage sound special. Frankly, i would order from dykes. That way if what arrives is not what you ordered you can refuse them.
