ISO Porcelain Slab Countertop Review
The only thing I would investigate is how it chips on the edges etc. That was an issue many people had with the engineered stones, and I just don’t know enough about porcelain slab to comment. Having said that, I did chip my granite countertop by dropping a pile of plates on the edge so anything that hard is vulnerable.

Anyone ever install them in their home? The selling points are strong, but I don’t know anyone who’s used them. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jamiegold/2019/10/13/why-you-might-want-porcelain-slab-countertops/?sh=19fadca77c92

Ahh, the old “tile your counter” is back. Makes sense for them to promote since its a doable DIY covid project.
This is not for counters, but I used some porcelain tile for my backyard…. looks like granite and still looks new. It was an unglazed tile that is basically waterproof and oil proof (from my BBQ) …as well as dog feces lol. I only clean with soft scrub with bleach.
I purchased for a ridiculously low price (2.35/sq ft) from build direct, and while mine is now discontinued i would def look there first to see if anything fits your aesthetic:
https://www.builddirect.com/r/Porcelain-Tile
What I will say is that it is great tile, color goes through the whole tile and looks brand new after several years. It cuts well, it looks and performs as advertised, and it has a high PEI rating. The only thing that I might be concerned about is dropping a plate or bottle of olive oil, etc on it could crack it due to its high strength (brittle). Having said that, I haven’t had any cracks even in extreme weather, although I have not dropped too many hard things on it you would find in a kitchen. If you are a DIY’er a $5.00 spare leftover tile and some elbow grease is pretty much a home run though for any issues down the road.
I would highly recommend minimal grout lines and an epoxy grout for a countertop.
I am amazed how well it has held up, it is the best deal I have made in a decade.

Thanks dorksofwindsor – all great context. The countertops I’m referring to are entire slabs cut to size, sold similar to quartz or stone. A buddy of mine from Australia claims they’re popular there for outdoor kitchen setups because they’re not sensitive to UV light and are durable outdoors – his account seems to match up to your experience with the outdoor porcelain tiles.
