Dear hive,
I am seeking a specialist who can re-set and refinish/repaint our original exterior door (in a brownstone). This may also involve refinishing the vestibule and pulling apart some of the walls around a decorative door frame. I know there are several individuals who specialize in this, but I can’t find their business cards. Any recs would be appreciated.

Hi, Jane you probably know that I can do all of this but you should know that few people manage to pull what might be three separate trades together. The resetting or I think you mean rehanging the door is what will throw most refinishers or generalists who do wall work and stripping and refinishing. I end up have to rehang a lot of doors that generalists or painters work on.

I should note, if the hinges are loose, adding larger screws may not fix the issue and if the larger heads protrude, it may make it worse. Wood has to go inside the casement to grab the screws. This is where many painters get it wrong.

I am not even putting my own name forth here as i am busy but you may be aware that i post under another name that reveals my business. Generally, I do not go on site simply to paint or strip and finish, but remove doors for full shop restoration. I do some hourly on site repair work involving hinges/locks. Drori and sons at re-finish.com do stripping and refinishing and I have done some work to doors in conjunction to them refinishing.
