Is work by a solitary handyman allowed?

I’m interested in having a lone guy come in to do some random odd jobs around the house (painting, repointing, fixing an old window) while we wait for the “real renovation” to start… Is this allowed? I definitely don’t want to be find 10k by the DOB for violating their rules!

I had a similar question for another project, and submitted a request for clarification to the NY State Department of Economic Development d/b/a Empire State Development, who is in charge of this order. This is the response I received:

When I read this I assume that one means that he is only one in the house, no other people present on the site.

this is good news then! So one worker is ok, and I guess we don’t need a special permit for that if they’re doing work that ordinarily does not require a permit.

Maggie – OP said “lone guy”

One worker is allowed regardless of what they are doing. They could be gut renovating a brownstone. As long as they are working alone, it is allowed.
