Hi everyone, I have searched quite a bit and there seems to be mixed thoughts on how to best handle insulating exterior brick walls from the interior.

Some say to spray foam the brick from the inside, others say don’t do it, will cause moisture problems. Some people say there needs to be a separation between the interior wall and the outside brick, so any moisture can drain down that wall.

So I was curious if anyone here has actually done any sort of insulation on their outside wall from the inside, and how it has worked out for you? I’ve already insulated the roof, but the street facing rooms are still much colder than the rest of the building
thanks all

there are 2 types of spray foam insulation, what you want is closed cell. read about it here

We framed and insulated a wall inside our brick exterior wall. For most of the walls, especially on the garden level where the brick is in ground contact we left a 1″ gap between wall and brick. We insulated with Roxul. If there are windows you have to extend the jambs. If you’re going to use spray foam I assume you will still have to frame a wall on the inside to hang your sheet rock.

I’ve done some reading on this and found this article to be helpful…

Thanks, bumping it back up in hopes to hear experiences from others that have already done this. I’m leaning towards ripping out the current wall and spraying with closed cell foam.
