In ceiling speakers?
Hi all. We’re doing a renovation and I’m figuring out our AV situation. In our living room, the AV sub and the architect are recommending we do in ceiling speakers for out projector. I’m a little weary about doing so if we need to swap/update later. Has anyone installed in ceiling before and regretted it later because of updating or swapping out tech? Anyone do it and never regretted it? I’d love to hear any experiences. Thanks!

Once the wiring is in, swapping out hardware should not be an issue.

I have a lot of in-ceiling speakers in both my apartment and weekend home. If you are referring to basic round speakers, swapping them is a breeze, and they tend to be fairly standard sizes, even across different brands. I would not hesitate doing this at all. I might have some reluctance to installing floor, ceiling or wall subwoofers, for appearance, performance and sound transmission reasons.
The cost of high quality ceiling speakers may make you choke, although prices and quality are all over the map. The can easily reach $500 each or more. I have Definitive Technology, Speakercraft and Martin Logan speakers in various living spaces, a cheaper (but perhaps not cheap) Polk Audio speakers in bathrooms. These are mainly for basic music, all attached to Sonos amps. Work perfectly. Can’t speak of using them for a home theater setup, but so long as you have a good subwoofer, you should be fine.
