Illegal to park in my own driveway?

My lawyer tells me that I am not allowed to park in my own driveway in front of my garage in Brooklyn. I have been living here since 2005 and have never heard this before. I have a one-family semi-attached house, with an attached garage (that I do not use to park my car). I have a 10′ curb cut leading to the garage and the entire front of my house was paved over so I can park 2 cars there side to side if need be. Attached is a photo showing this. Since I am dealing with DOB on another violation, I want to make sure I won’t get dinged for parking in my driveway when/if they come back to reinspect.

Am I forced to just park across my driveway for the rest of my life? Or do I need to “legalize” my driveway so I can park there as I have been doing for 13 years. I don’t intend to use my garage to park the car, especially in the winter. This is ridiculous to me, although it seems NYC does a lot of ridiculous things to their citizens.

your neighbor has a nice front garden. maybe you should consider using your garage as a garage and then break up that nasty slab and plant some things. I am sure your neighbors will appreciate it vs 2 cars basically on the sidewalk.

You can park in your driveway; so-long as the car / vehicle does not block the sidewalk & that it is completely on your property, not creeping on the sidewalk.
You can get a ticket if you park on the street, blocking your own driveway.
You should have technically got a permit to concrete over more of your front yard, widening your driveway. But I cannot imagine that an inspector coming to sign off a finished project that has nothing to do with the driveway or garage would even notice.
