How to vet contractors in the age of Covid-19?

We’re soon going to need to start bidding out our townhouse reno project to different contractors, but I wonder how that is being done nowadays? Ideally, the architect and I would be on site to meet the contractors and do a walk through – but that seems like a bad idea.

Also, how should we check their previous work? Should we ask for photos or perhaps a virtual walk through of one of their previous projects?

You absolutely need to meet face to face, hiring a contractor isn’t just about the work, you need to see if your personalities fit as well, especially if its a large job.
Masks, gloves (no handshakes anymore), and maintain social distance just like when you go outside or to the store etc.
Life has risks, just live it and mitigate what you reasonably can.

Ask for photos and references.
