How much does it cost to rip out a dropped ceiling and to expose beams?

my understanding is that it is only a code violation to expose beams if it the floor above is a different dwelling unit. if you have say the lower duplex of a 4 story house you can expose the beams of your 1st floor but not your second floor.

Depends on current conditions. Get a few estimates from contractors.
But if your house is a multiple dwelling; exposing wood beams is not to code.
