How does one find out if your contractor has had a violation

You can check on DOB by their license number but buildings receive violations, not the contractor

Our building in Park Slope have received bids from various contractors to replace our garden wall.
We have narrowed it down to 3 and all of the references seem to give them high marks. Is there any way to find out if people have had negative experiences or any of the contractors have received any violations?
