Does anyone have any leads on a house number painter for a brownstone transom window? The names and contact info already on the forum are from a few years ago and they seem to be outdated. Thanks!

Not specifically a house number painter, but I’m sure that Ingrid VanShipley, a decorative painter who’s done a lot of work in our house, would do an excellent job. Just Google her.

We struggled with this as well, until we realized you don’t need a painter. These decals look just like they are painted, and are fun to apply, also:
The owner was responsive on email and gave us helpful suggestions.

Yes, what archie fina says. You can order these and put them up yourself. They stick on from the inside. I have customees who have done this themselves after i finish the doors.

Those vinyl numbers look very good. In had gold leaf numbers put on my transom (written out, in cursive) about 45 years ago, but they’re a good alternative.

You can get them in gold leaf. Google “transom” house numbers

You can also print your own numbers on an ordinary piece of paper, tape it up outside the window, go back inside and climb a ladder – then paint the numbers using the paper outside as a guide…..just stay in the lines. You’d be surprised at how good it looks.

That’s a really clever idea! It would be even better to take a screenshot of the number you’ve laid out, save it as a JPG, flip it in Photoshop, and tape the backwards numbers outside the glass so that you could paint the numbers inside where they’re protected.

That’s what I mean, Bob. You print them normally and tape it up outside, then paint them on the inside. Paint during the daytime so the light shines through the paper. You’ll be painting backwards but you use the printout as a guide. I outlined the numbers with black paint then filled in with gold leaf paint.
