Hatch Repair
I recently repaired the concrete at the front of my brownstone in hopes that it would help with water coming into my basement. While it did help, I noticed there is stillI water coming into my basement via my hatch out front. Does anyone have a metal work/hatch repair recommendation.

I got the curb / roof hatch style that Steve is referring to – it doesn’t lay flat with the front garden bluestone of course, which can be annoying, but it eliminates the leaks. Vinnie’s Italian ironworks on Bergen street did it for me about two years ago. Thought they did a good job – price was reasonable and they were fast.

Do you still have the original wooden hatch? I replaced mine with a metal hatch years ago. I used Virgo Ironworks. Tone new hatch pretty much eliminated leaks.

Some homeowners may have found less costly ways around this but unless you can raise the hatch up on a curb and have it sit over and around that curb, like a roof hatch or skylight sits over a curb on a roof, i suspect this will be very challenging. Aside from that i do see a lot of people place large sort of heavy (commercial grade) rubber matts over these and they often sit tight to the hatches and help keep water out.
There are commercial hatch manufacturers on line who might have stock items on hand, as oppossed to custom. If you cannot find any, come back on here and ask or you can email me and ask though the conversation is better on here for the benefit of the community.
