Has anyone ever used transfer tax returns for work on a shared party wall?
Hi all, so I am planning to excavate our cellar with underpinning etc. We’re in the final phases of getting permits, and as per my expediter’s instructions, my lawyer prepared a party wall easement agreement for my one neighbor and I to sign – so far, so good.
But now my lawyer also wants my neighbor to sign a transfer tax return as well, which is a pretty alarming-looking document that requires my neighbor to give his Social Security number. My lawyer says this will show that no money is being paid for the giving of the party wall easement. My expediter is deferring to my lawyer about this but doesn’t seem to think it’s necessary.
Has anyone had experience with this? I really, really don’t want to freak out my neighbor and have him become unwilling to cooperate and slow the whole process down.

Shouldn’t the fact that “no money is being given” just be part of the actual easement agreement? Yes, sounds overly complicated and it’s going to be a red flag for your neighbor.
