glass roof for screened deck?
I may have inadvertently added confusion. If the roof is temporary then the deck it is not a considered a room once that is removed. I was referring to the roof covering as “temporary” not the entire structure. You should talk to an architect and see if the room can be filed and added.

Has anyone looked into the possibility of screening a deck against insects by installing a glass roof and screens? Apparently the DOB says a deck cannot have a roof, so what would be the administrative hurdles?

if it has a roof it’s considered another room, which may or may not be permitted based on the FAR in use on the lot already. plus it would be treated as a room for code compliance so would need things like outlets, etc I think. what if you had a retractable awning that screen fabric could be attached to?

I second Steve, if it can be removed easily it is not considered a room as it’s temporary.

For a better understanding of Temporary Structures, not to be confused with Temporary Construction, refer to NYC Building Code Section 3103.
