Getting rid of rodent smell in basement
All of the above and also get several of those “bad air sponge” canisters or charcoal bags or similar. We used lots when we moved into our house, and eventually they prevailed over 50 years of smoking and cats. Good luck!

Ugh, we had rats in the basement of our two-story house and thankfully they’re now gone. But the smell of their urine/whatever remains. It’s an old cellar flood that’s cracked cement/rubble (not something you could really mop). Someday we will redo the basement but it’s not in the budget now. Any advice? Thanks.

Cat urine is supposed to be the worst and there’s a product called Nature’s Miracle that most pet stores sell. I’m not sure if it will work in this case, but it’s worth googling.

First cleanup any droppings (wear gloves and a mask). Then wash with mixture of one gallon hot water, half a cup of bleach, and a squirt of dish detergent, at least two exterminators have told us.

I think the bleach is good for disinfecting, but you typically need some sort of enzymatic solution to get rid of the smell or urine. Some of these suggestions might mimic that but I’d guess the Nature’s Miracle is the best bet of what’s here.

You may still have some decaying carcasses. Check for that first. Nature’s Miracle has worked for me in the past or getting a heavy duty cleaner and a power washer. You may need to hit it more than once. Good luck.
