For renters: looking for property management companies to call/find apartment

Hi, My roommate and I are currently trying to find a two bedroom apartment and it seems like Craigslist has gone so downhill over the years we’re going to try to start calling buildings directly. We are looking to live anywhere in BoCoCa(yes, I hate that word too), Park Slope, Prospect Heights, etc. We are open to any kind of building, but since we’re not having any luck finding anything in a brownstone we’d like to start reaching out to some of the bigger buildings and calling the management company/building owner directly. Does anyone have any info on this? Or could share their landlords info(if they aren’t a slumlord)? Thanks! *i tried to search for this topic, but all the posts were for people looking for property management comapanies to manage their building.

Craigslist has definitely changed for the worse over the past few years. Many renters are very frustrated when using that site. However, in time many have learned how to weed out the bad ads. Some of the things to look out for: 1\. Ask for a specific address. 6th avenue and 24 street is NOT PARK SLOPE! 2\. Ask for the Sq. footage of the apartment. In general, 1 bedroom is about 550-750 sq feet. 2 bedroom is 700-950 sq feet and 3 bedroom is 900sq feet and higher. If you see a 2 bedroom apartment at 600sq ft…it was originally a 1 bedroom that was chopped up. 3\. Make sure to visit the neighborhood in the day and at night. Talk with neighbors about the area and if possible…talk with other tenants in the same building to find out how well the landlord manages the building. I have not used craigslist in a long time. Last time I posted on craigslist I had a line of people to the end of the block for the open house. Now I deal with brokers only….unless your a previous tenant who is looking to move back to my building. I am a park slope landlord. No apartments available at this time. Best of luck on your search.
