flash flood in basement

either your street sewer is overwhelmed or you have tree roots in your main drain in front of house. If it is the roots, a regular roto rooter doesn’t get 75% of the roots once the main drain converts into clay pipe and roots come from the top. Only a big machine with 4″ cutter and camera (several hour job) followed by root-x did the trick for us. After years of backup near the back door drain (and flooded basement), it is now dry as a bone! Must be done every 2 yrs though. Forget the check vale unless you know for certain your street sewer regularly is overwhelmed, as you will also need a solution for your roof rain which definitely will overflow with a check valve.

when theres a flash flood I get a surge of sewer runoff in basement which then recedes anyone resolve a problem like this yesterday I lost my 2nd hot water heater in less than 2 years

We installed a check valve that snaps shut when the sewer water starts to back up during hard fast rains.

Have your storm drains snaked every couple years. If you have an old tree in front of your house the roots get inside the drain pipes causing blockage.

A check valve on your house drain may protect your basement from flooding but if water from your roof or yard drains is flowing through the house drain, the water that can’t get to the street will back up and overflow at the next lowest point – a toilet in the basement or on the floor above.

Until you get the problem solved, I’d put your next water heater up on concrete blocks.
