Extermination fee on my property tax bill
I have an empty building near the Navy Yard and I just got $365. added to my quarterly tax bill! I got a ticket (which I beat), but absolutely nothing has been done by the city, except placing a sign on my fence, saying that the area was being treated for rats. As soon as I got the ticket I put out poison boxes and some sticky pads (which immediately disappeared), stuffed penetrations into the building with copper mesh, and checked for evidence – none. Has anyone else gotten this bill. Do you think there’s any way to argue this? (haha)

Be aware that commercial and multi-unit property owners must
hire a pest control company – it is against the law for property owners to place their own bait.

The Department of Health issues the tickets , but hearings are done @ ECB.
“If the violations are not dismissed at the hearing, you will be fined. Fines begin at $300 and can be as high as $2,000. Additionally, the Health Department may apply bait to your property and perform any clean up that is necessary and then send you the bill. You may be billed up to $1,000 a day for this work. Property owners that fail to pay fees or fines will eventually have a lien placed against their property.”

I assume the confusion is the word *additionally*. It seems like you are on the hook, but if you have any reservations obviously they are serious if they’re talking liens so I’d pay first and call DOH for clarification later.
